Teucrium marum honey (camedrio, or catnip) can be obtained in the mountains on the border between Barbagia and Ogliastra. This plant is only found in Sardinia, Corsica, the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, and the islands of Hyeres in France. Chamydew honey is light-coloured, almost white, and crystallises finely to an almost creamy consistency.
It has a round, distinctive and very floral flavour, with a spicy final note and a lingering aftertaste. Because of its creaminess, it can be considered almost unique. This is an incredibly rare honey that can be produced every four to five years or more, in rainy summer years (a rare occurrence for a generally arid region like Sardinia). These characteristics, in addition to the sensations it conveys, rank it among the most valuable honeys in Sardinia.
